ArtDepot is honored to announce the solo exhibition of artist Lin Zhi, "Lin Zhi's Convenience Store," which officially opened on October 12, 2025.Exhibition Content:A total of more than ten easel paintings created by the artist between 2024 and 2025 will be on display.Exhibition Period:The exhibition will run until December 28, 2025.
Lin Zhi has transformed the exhibition space into a "beachside old-school karaoke bar." In the increasingly monotonous 798 Art District, he stubbornly spreads sand, hangs laser lights over half-century-old industrial stone slabs, and uses cheap, shimmering materials to recreate the "Kara Lambeau" atmosphere of a bustling street corner. The artist believes that seemingly crude, readily available joys are precisely the most direct remedy for alleviating the anxieties of contemporary life.
Lin Zhi's recent work has increasingly turned toward exploring inner emotions and advancing the language of painting. In this phase, he finds himself "more moved by color," viewing creation as an honest confrontation with the self. The flowing hues and borrowed travel anecdotes in his works are not meant to deliberately seek empathy from the audience. Instead, he firmly believes that "what I need is what you need"—the vulnerability and helplessness he portrays, along with the longing for freedom and joy, reflect the shared emotional undertones of our time.
Thus, the exhibition space itself becomes the largest artwork. The floor, reflecting fluorescent lights and the silhouettes of visitors, blurs the lines between reality and illusion, public and private. The artist does not merely invite us to "observe" a scene but to "step into" a state of being. He hopes that visitors can momentarily detach here—perhaps under a flickering light, suddenly wondering, "Can I go on a trip?"—thereby briefly escaping the weight of reality and returning to a state of self-awareness in the present moment.
Lin Zhi's Convenience Store does not offer grand narratives but rather provides an emotional sanctuary. Here, art is no longer a puzzle to be deciphered but becomes a perceptible warmth, a touchable sea breeze, and a nostalgic melody one can hum along to.
